Psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips trade on their feted stage show by promising their first live album.

Gigwise reports that the quirky Oklahoma group, led by charismatic shaman Wayne Coyne, have recorded their recent performance at The Hollywood Bowl where they performed songs predominantly from their 2005 ‘At War With The Mystics’ album. Apparently they’ll delve into their extensive back catalogue when they record more sound and light at their Oklahoma City homecoming show.

The group have long been renowned for their live spectaculars. Often featuring a huge cast of performers dressed up in costumes or even full furry animal suits, and with bizarre stage props, their performances are also spacey musical journeys.

Bassist pianist Michael Ivins told Billboard that they weren’t going to rush the planned CD and DVD but have set a tentative window for release in early 2007.

Ever the visionary, Coyne has grand plans for their future shows. After their use of huge hands and Santa Claus at recent dates, Ivins hinted at the long-awaited UFO prop. “It's not quite ready yet,” he teased. “We're going to see if we can do it every show or just do it a few times a year."
